Monument Valley and Bluff, UT

After leaving Canyon de Chelly we drove through Monument Valley. Oh, it was glorious with rain clouds, rain, rainbows and amazing rock formations.

I wanted to go to Bluff, UT (our next stop) after reading Gerald Lund's book "The Undaunted" which tells of the hole-in-the -rock pioneers who were called to settle along the San Juan river. The book was awesome and I would love to do the whole route from Escalante to Bluff which requires a 4 wheel drive. This next pix is taken from a walk from our motel to the river and a deer was spotted. The path was very dusty and we got quite hot. I certainly commiserated with what those pioneers went through! Ha! I don't know a partial speck of what they went through!

We went to a museum in Bluff and this charming older lady talked to us for sometime. She is the grand daughter of Jens Nielson whom was the danish Bishop of the hole-in-the-rock pioneers whom I grew to love in the book. It was so fun meeting her! She is pictured with one of the wagons used to bring them on their arduous journey.
