I have been trying to spend several days with one grandchild at a time and do fun things with them. This past week we had Megan, my oldest grand child who is now 11. Our big adventure was spending a few nights in the cabin at Columbine and hiking. We hiked down Ash Creek trail to the falls. There is a gorgeous picture in our new Temple in the chapel of these falls so I was anxious to see them in person. Megan did great on her first long hike. It was probably about 5 miles round trip.
We counted over 40 downed trees over the trail we had to climb over or under. This was no challenge for Megan but some of these places were a bit rough for us older folk!
We reached the falls! We had to leave the trail and hike down to this point to get a better view but it was worth it! We took the horse trail down to this point and went back up the shorter way through slick rock.
We all loved the slick rock portion of the trail. It was so pretty and hiking right by the creek was lots more fun that the safer horse route.
We were more than ready to stop here for lunch. The creek was really cold but felt so good on the feet!
These two pictures are on the trail up to Webb Peak which we hiked the next day.
These are more pix on the Ash Creek trail.
This pix was a group of us who hiked to the tree where Pres. Kimball carved his name the previous week. The tree is in back of our group: Jan Hunt, Jeanine Palmer Allred, Terry Blake, Don, Sarah Foote. I was proud of Sarah in our group who is blind but did rather well hiking! There were downed trees and creeks to maneuver over which is a challenge without sight!
